Suit Up and Be Civil 2022

Join us for the eighth annual SUBC February 15th, 2022 where students, professionals, and faculty will come together for a networking event. It is a unique opportunity to connect with current students, other industrial leaders, and top academic Engineering faculty members!​

To protect all members of our community, the 2022 Suit Up and Be Civil event will be in person following all the necessary COVID-19 protocols as instructed by the University of Maryland.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Michelle (Shelby) Bensi

Michelle (Shelby) Bensi, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maryland (UMD). She is a member of the UMD Center for Disaster Resilience and UMD Center for Risk and Reliability. Dr. Bensi’s research focuses on probabilistic assessment of multiple types of natural hazards, risk-informed applications, the use of statistics/ machine learning in civil engineering, and disaster resilience. 
​
Dr. Bensi previously served as an engineer at the 
United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and her research and professional activities continue to include a focus on nuclear power facilities. Dr. Bensi holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with Designated Emphasis in Computational Science and Engineering from UC Berkeley. She also holds a master’s degree in applied sciences and a bachelor’s degree in economics.​
