Keynote Speaker: Dr. Michelle (Shelby) Bensi
|
Michelle (Shelby) Bensi, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maryland (UMD). She is a member of the UMD Center for Disaster Resilience and UMD Center for Risk and Reliability. Dr. Bensi’s research focuses on probabilistic assessment of multiple types of natural hazards, risk-informed applications, the use of statistics/ machine learning in civil engineering, and disaster resilience.
Dr. Bensi previously served as an engineer at the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and her research and professional activities continue to include a focus on nuclear power facilities. Dr. Bensi holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with Designated Emphasis in Computational Science and Engineering from UC Berkeley. She also holds a master’s degree in applied sciences and a bachelor’s degree in economics. |
